He ended up in the United States Senate coming to you from my living room, and as I told you all before that I spent most of my life as a County state and federal prosecutor, and that was the longest serving sheriff in Lake County, Illinois history and I'm talking to you tonight about George Floyd once again it was a week ago today on my anniversary, actually my 20 fourth wedding anniversary that George Floyd was killed and a lot of transpired in this past week, and we talked about how wrong the case with George. And I never should have happened and I know that former sheriff of that area up there, Hennepin County where Minneapolis, which dann and I knew the former chief of Minneapolis Dolan and they were great leaders and unfortunately, the leadership and the law enforcement in Minneapolis has taken a downturn in peers, but in any of that as a result of George Floyd's murder, we had was'. This protest that led to writing and led to looting and led to all kinds of criminal activity and it moves its way throughout the country and as I'm here talking about what happened in Illinois, the most recently, we'll talk about it. You look at all of the Chicago squads were turned on on the hoods turned upside down lit on fire burned banged into damaged buildings destroyed businesses. Life savings lit up on fire police officers that were in there trying to intervene being dragged by the crowds stomped on by the crowd and you know numerous once you have to go to the police Department, I mean you have to go to the hospital and what he had. you just absolutely horrible. So how do we get there? Let's just talk about Illinois cuz that's where we are the crisis and leadership. You have a governor that in the midst of all this feels the need to send out yes. Just to the President and the Democratic Party, shares about it, we have a mayor of Chicago. that's caused present, you know, says the word and you to the President and you think about just how pathetic can help political that is and then you keep going down the line. Durbin why I'm running against gives a speech from the floor of the United States Senate today talking about law enforcement and how bad it is across the country and and where they're going to and what he have you. So let me just tell you what. Think from my perspective, first of all, I was a Democrat and I've been a Republican for a long time, but I try not to be political in terms of law enforcement decisions and you just can't be you look at what happened in and you call it the way it was So George Floyd never should have been murdered now. there's absolutely horrible, the way that it happened, but now we're dealing with what's happening as far as the protest. There's evidence that Lori Lightfoot gave a stand down and you know that was reported in what happened. She's denied. We don't know exactly, but we know that she has not backed up the police. We know that you know the the special units were called out the Lake they were under siege. They were under Mann and as you saw the police officers specifically the ones the the video tape shows getting stomped on by the crowd and everything else and then other other officers just standing by you can see. It's essentially a stand down. There's a you know, don't engage and you know you can certainly for that from what transpired you know a police officers if left to their own, they're not gonna let their cars get turned-over and lit on fire and they're not gonna watch businesses be destroyed. It's just not the way they operate. That's not what they took the old for so let's go to what police have to deal with on a regular basis. You know we're living in a in a society where you know dads are no longer relevant. You have both young men out there. Committing crimes and and you know the the lies of the left, telling you that that the fatherless homes don't matter what it does when there's all sorts of violence out there, there's violence. It's glorified in so many different ways. Please have to go into those communities and please watch their partners get shot at and they watched their partners buried and they'd see people that I have no respect for them on a regular basis and people that are potentially. I have HIV biting them and they're thrown their journey and feces and all these things thrown at them and why do I know that I've spent. And I know what happens all the time and that's the environment that we send law enforcement to and couple that with what the status of law enforcement is today. one less people are applying to be police officers and essentially ever before because they recognize it in the younger generation. they like him in their free time, they don't wanna be attached to the work. you know the afternoons and midnight for years and years they don't like all of that. it takes in terms of being weighted down they see what's. With your parents that they were in law enforcement, they see the toll on marriages and everything else they see how hard the job is you have to deal with this stuff on a day-in and day-out basis, they see that law enforcement is really something that if you make a mistake, that's it so we only see one side. we don't allow mistakes to happen and we've clearly set this message that we don't have their back. The media has been very hostile the police and certainly throughout. If a police officer makes a mistake of correction officer make a mistake, that's the story. The great job they do day in and day out is not the story and you look at the fact that they can go to court and be sued for simple mistakes and everything else. So there's so much that's pitted against them and Illinois. The General Assembly has written all these laws to protect inmates and to protect civilians, but nothing to protect the law in terms of doing their job. So it's really become a. Where your police officer and you show up at the location, whatever it is, there's a it's up for grabs and if you do nothing well, you're probably not gonna be disciplined. but if you do something, there's a good chance that you will be and that's the problem is that we're getting into a mindset that we're we're disciplining and we're we're we're punishing those that have make a mistake and we're doing it in essence, nothing happens to the officer that doesn't wanna do anything so it's really a mess. Number two in the United States, Senate Democratic side people like standing up and condemning police and claiming that this is happening all around the country and what he have you just to feed the narrative. It is absolutely horrible living in Lawless times you look at what's going on. There's an absence of God and the culture, the fact that people could do this to their neighbor is absolutely horrible and the one that's protecting us along that thin blue line is the law enforcement. They need our prayers. In our support, they need to know that we stand with them. What happened to George Floyd is not happening everywhere around the country. That's absolutely absurd the majority of people that do this job do the job of a police officer or a correctional officer. Do that job with with great heroism heroism. They don't ask for a lot of fan fair, but at the end of the day, you know we should recognize that and if we wanna be protected, we should stand behind them and authorize them to do their job and you know they make mistakes against the The law violators Finally, you know a friend of mine is a sheriff down in Polk County, Florida, and he put something out tonight, saying that He he's led all the people down. There know that they carry shotguns and other firearms inside their homes and if you're intruder comes in you, you told them that they have the right to protect themselves and their family and don't don't think that they're gonna miss out there because they know how to handle a firearm So you know the point is that Chicago you know where they won't won't let the police do their job number one number two. they work so hard to make law abiding citizens, not be able to have guns to protect themselves and then number three. Promote these policies that have we have all these fatherless homes and we have all these failed policies that have destroyed the nuclear family and faith out of the equation and then you know we have a culture that runs off so ultimately, God is sovereign. We need to be in prayer. We need to recognize the fact that you know we will get through this too shall pass and let's pray for our law enforcement tonight. Let's pray for America. Thank
